Red Barchetta

Red Barchetta

A Poem by The Analog Kid
"

On of my favorite Rush tunes for driving. Seems so prophetic. A little twist on the lyrics and lyricist. Watch out for the alloy air cars **see lyrics** Crank it up!

"

We never knew
what was ahead
my
uncle Neil said

back in 2015
they put black boxes
in
the cars

to see where we went
and how far

then
the ones
working for the
security of our
home
land

took the guns
and
engines
from
our hands

out in these parts
they only
came
around once

to confiscate
but
by then
it was too late

and now
you listened
to
my yarn

so let's
take a walk
to
the barn

because
something's
there for me
and
you
that they didn't
get to

beneath a pile
of hay

between where
his horses
lay

behind
the rusty plow...

so
I stripped away
the old debris
and
said
"they didn't take it
how?"

Uncle Neil
replied
"it may have been wrong
but I lied

when they went
that direction

pretended
to have died

after helping me
inside
they left

I prevented the theft

climb in
and
fire up
the willing engine

it will roar

in the glove box
you will find
something
from
a better vanished time

a 1923 Beretta

now
go screaming
through the valley
in the Red Barchetta!"

Awesome write...way to pay homage. A nice take on a personal favorite....."what is life without freedom?"

Thanks so much.. You get it:)
We all need ourselves an Uncle Neil! By the way, if I can't shoot my gun, after driving my Red Barchetta to my (brother's) country place, there will be hell to pay! Great tribute, even better message!

Wow...now those are the real deal!
This almost rings too true, given the current climes. I fear this may be what lies ahead. Mustn't take our freedoms for granted.

Very good write.

You hit on a controversial topic whether you meant to or not. Taking for granted our freedoms...until one day...we will be defenseless and running scared. Sounds like you have the perfect retreat...like Noah's ark...maybe you'll let some of us in?

Nifty little poem Pat. I sense a connection to 2112, 1984, and the song. The twist with the Beretta was a nice one. This also has a sense of espionage about it too. Great poem.
