Walking Through Those Weary WaysA Poem by Dietrich von CroweSonnet, inspired by Robert Frost's "Acquainted with the Night."
You’ve seen it, walking through those weary ways,
The vivid distant gaze of falling dreams;
You’ve seen it, – echoing those fading days.
You’ve heard the symphony of silent screams,
As rain resounds behind the soundless choir,
And wonder how the dark is as it seems
When all you knew had been a daylight fire;
The fleeting warmth and glow of time’s bright clock
You’ve felt, now gone, through timeless hope’s desire.
You’ve seen the past in haunting shadow walk,
You’ve felt the gaunt expression dress your daze,
And know the shadow shades your leaden stalk,
Eclipsing every balanced step with haze.
You’ve seen it, walking through those weary ways.
