Misconceptions

Misconceptions

A Chapter by Dice Jordan
"

Just what the title says.

"

Once love was a hug,

Then it was a kiss

Then it was sex.

Love became sweat and tears

Then love was pain,

and in order to have love, you had to go through pain.

Who wants to have pain?

Don't worry about it,

because love isn't glamorous and sexy.

It's pain and fighting the pain.

Please don't fall into the same fate as I.

Thinking you need it

Thinking love will save you and solve life's problems.

And I wanted the world

I wanted the you in me to see

We could drive through the wind and visit the stars

But not everything's meant to be

Not everything's meant to be

I had dreams, I tell you

And yet you shrug your shoulders and pretend you're angry

Like it's cute

I know we've been over this before

It's like talking to a brick wall

It's like you're not there at all

And it's hard to choose

whether to speak the truth or upset you

I hate making you mad

Only because you're the only person I have

keeping it from you makes things worse.

I wasn't sure about this at first,

but now we're growing strong together

I don't know if it could get much better.

Hands unprotected

Turn purple and chapped

And so you turn away from me

Tell me I've been good, but then ignore me

As I stand quietly and don't stand up for myself

Because really, how much would I achieve

if you're bent on leaving?

How much do I expect you to listen

if you're too busy walking away?

And I'll shout and achieve nothing.

And I'll cry and achieve nothing.

I'll follow you and crawl

I'll grab onto you and hold on for dear life

Do you see me crying?

Do you see me crawling?

No.

So I stand.

I wipe my tears away.

Sniff that final sniff.

I wipe the dirt off my knees

Become you

and walk away.
