In My Thoughts

In My Thoughts

A Poem by diaphanous

There's something in the way you look at me
That little curve in your smile
The crinkles in the corners of your eyes
I can't describe it
I'm completely breathless
Thinking about how you touch me
fingers clawing my skin and hair
There've been many others before you
I've dipped my toe and it's felt divine
But no one has left me like you did
grasping at air and lost for words
I'm alone now tasting nothing
I fall asleep with nothing
wanting the comfort of your embrace
Every day I wake up the same way
Before I pull myself up I keep my eyes slightly closed
Because I remember how we met that first day
We'd sat together barely saying a word
Eyes glued to the cartoons on the TV
Ignoring the furtive glances and glares
of everyone else in our company
Why did you stick around for me
All my life I've been told over and over again
You're nothing, you're worthless
I believe it when I'm alone and look in the mirror
All I see are the flaws standing there
Ever since I was old enough to know how
I've battled myself day in and day out
Exhausted and bloody but still fighting
Against the form I've been given
But one look from you and the voices go silent
You looked at me and I felt the earth move
It's been months and yet my world is still shifted
Every thought I have now has you somewhere
hidden between each line.
