Pounds of fleshA Poem by diaphanousI recently fell back into an old routine.
I lick my lips
One more spoonful One more chip One more lick One more bite And one look in the mirror creates a chorus of spite. Look at you, Extra softness on your body. Padding around your face. Expanded waist and hips. Your body is a complete disgrace. No wonder no one loves you And you're entirely alone. There's nothing you can offer, except extra fat on bone. Listen to you, Lights off and door tightly shut. Whimpering on the bathroom floor. Knees pulled to your chest. Crying, "no more, no more." And yet you pull yourself back up. Hands on the cold ceramic bowl. Assume the time-honored position, And force one last pull. Touch you, You're soft and vulnerable. A body full of weak spots But let anyone else know and you're damaged even more. It's been six years. Sometimes you're left alone. But more often than not, I'm right beside you, Breaking you down, turned into simple flesh, alone and defenseless.
