Words

A Poem by Diana Owen Busy with Life BBS!

   Words that can cut deeply
Only one is needed to hurt
Ruining your own security
Destroying your self esteem
Slowly losing respect of yourself

Fat
Stupid
Ugly

Words will take away from what you love
Obscene phrases that bring you down
Releasing you from your own grip on reality
Despising who you are
So that you lose your own self.

It's generally the lack of intelligent words that find people using the hurtful ones instead.
Great write Diana

It's so true that words can cut deep wounds. Words can also lift a spirit up. Good poem. Thank you for sharing. debileah

Powerful words..........and yes, words can really hurt if you allow them, sometimes to the extent of becoming apart of you. The picture you used is fantastic..........I am an avid picture collector!

Amen! I loved the image it went perfectly with this poem. I relate to this write in far as the damage done to me by words spoken from my mother. I would that she beat the living tar out of me than used her piercing sword like tongue. Proverbs has a few verses about the same thing.

Proverbs 15:4 "A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach of the spirit."
8:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.'

You are a wise woman to know that it is the mouth of whom spewed the words that really is the one that is damaged, sometimes beyond repair. Great subject perfect write! Peace ~Roxy

It's amazing how people love using words on others to make them feel the pain and sting of insecurity when they themselves are terrified to hear the very same words. Great write here!

Words do hurt, no matter how hard we try to remember the old "sticks and stones" adage. Words can help too, and this poem can serve to empower those who otherwise might lack the strength to overcome the damaging effects of words that can hurt.

Who ever said the sticks and stones thing must have been on some superior ego trip. Words can hurt far worse then sticks and stones. You showed this very well.

This is the second piece I have reviewed tonight about people's uncontrollable tongues! Must be going around like the flu! When people are unkind there is something driving them onward, a kind of hatred that isn't reserved for one person alone and I think you are perfectly correct in saying that these types have low self-esteem, but it still does not excuse this kind of behavior...there are a hundred cliches I could throw in here like people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but hey, you know what I mean. This is well penned and structured...

... words can be nasty, yet with discriminating wisdom driven by an eagerly forgiving and compassionate Heart all these miseries become impermanent and plain ... again and again we write for all to see, that from our write we choose liberty!

well realized write with your singular style and wit inside of it ...
