Stand Tall, My Tree

Stand Tall, My Tree

A Poem by diamondlioness
"

A poem about a tree and its planter. I hope you enjoy it!

"
Where does one plant a tree
when they want it to last forever?
Accidents happen,
and trees are not safe
just because you give it
your love,
patience,
and care.

Oh, the tizzy of one
who wishes to plant a tree.
Somewhere where it can receive
nourishment a plenty
and guidance to the sun,
for all the planter wants
is for their tree to grow so high
it touches the stars.

Eventually the planter will learn,
over due time,
no matter where you plant a seed,
it will have to grow
on its own.

There's nothing much one can do
for a tree once it sprouts.
The sun will come and go,
as will the storm,
and it will no longer be up to
the planter to teach the tree
how to cope.

Someday, that tree will lean towards the ground,
no longer able to stand against life.
Many a planter would give up,
but one who spends hours
trying to find the best spot
for the tree's beginning
would sturdy that tree,
though it seems impossible,
and help it stand.

The tree will live on,
tall by the time the planter is
old and grey,
and as the planter might take
their last breath
they will see their tree
sturdy
and able to live on.

After considering for a long time,
the planter's question is no longer
where to plant the tree
but why not plant
a forest.

I decided to go into this and just see where the words took me. I suppose I meant for there to be a metaphor within, if you consider the tree a child and the planter the parent. I hope you enjoyed and please feel free to review and critique this poem. Thank you!

I believe this one is a good metaphor for life. It would indeed be applicable to parent and child. I was a little thrown by the part where the planter picks up the fallen tree and it lives again. But it's your poem, and if you say it's so, it is.
