The Candleholder

The Candleholder

A Poem by Emily

Medieval dreams reflected
In the clear-cut crystal  light
All the house infected
With dances till midnight

Warmth in the cold
Caused by beauty
Of the light-giving goblet

Caustic waves
Grey envelopes the scene
A tableau of panic
All the women scream

Running to the river
Swimming frantically away
But one survivor stands
Under the wreckage
Below the debris

The crystal candleholder stands
Reviewing the damage and the dreams
And slowly it melts away
Slowly the trauma fades
