Selenophilia

Selenophilia

A Poem by Emily

Oh moon, you are a child,
Borne from the earth
And sent to the sky
To protect us
Did you deserve it?

Oh moon,
We honor your pain.
We found beauty and mystery in your flaws
Curved toward your seas to drown ourselves in
We built our spaceships for you.
Can you see your stolen temples?

Oh moon,
I see your graceful halo, blue and flaming,
You are a diamond reflecting loving beams.
You are a pearl on the ocean of void.
Does your inconstancy bother you at all?

Oh moon of many names,
Harsh flicks of the tongue defining your craters,
Lulls like kisses, sighing into silver crests.

There are no men in your face,
No women waxing ripe and full.
Tonight you are a warrior,
A monarch,
A symbol.
Tonight navy cloaks you,
Tonight silver spears shower the earth,
Tonight you are a calmest love.
