Inside A Name

Inside A Name

A Poem by Emily

Dearest,
In my heart, you have four names.
The first one your mother gave you
That filled the holy pages with light
I couldn't pick a better namesake to burden you with.

The second you fashioned with your friends
Crafted from your goals
And when you talk about that place
It feels like the first sure thing in the universe.

The single dandelion that I am,
As much sun as I can bring in,
Will pale, skirting the side of your greenhouse.
But you are not a greenhouse.
(He knows, he knows)
Your windows are not clear.
You are a limousine.
Tinted windows sleekly passing through
Driving to a nondescript location
With all the mystique and prowess
(He knows, he knows)
All the power and glamour
(He knows, he knows)
It dazzles me.

The third name is all the ecstasies I have felt in your presence.
It is the times I have looked in your eyes, and not quavered at their intensity.
When I see your smile, even if not because of me,
Especially not because of me.
Your name becomes clear when I hold pet names back by a leash,
(He knows, he knows)
When my eyes flick up to gaze at you
(He knows, he knows, he knows)
You love me when you're not looking.

These sunrise thoughts never set
I roll the sounds of your names in my tongue
Unheard outside my throat
( He knows, he knows)
Your fourth name is love.
