AutonomyA Poem by Emily
Sing for me
Open your silver-smeared lips, Glistening with taut promises Give me no lies to taint your melody Your therapy comes slow, I find myself climbing towards health on a fraying, heavy rope Only a song in my afflicted head I peel the reins from your fists, Revealing the imprints from use A choice becomes my drumming heart: Sew the reins to my palms, Or tie a noose to my neck. It has always been strength that shows Through a skin so shy that it shakes at Any mention of you. Scorn has always rendered it useless. What a display of bare muscles Rippling, red, and full. I force my feet to circle around your trap of amber, Making your body gleam with caramel syrup. There's no audience in the jungle. In the bedroom, no reins. I have stripped myself of weakness, I am predator now, feline eyes seeking and piercing a hopeless prey. Fury is burned in my palms, The only lyric to my favorite song. © 2015 EmilyAuthor's Note
