Thief in the Night

Thief in the Night

A Poem by Emily

She stole my heart
Before anyone knew I had one
She kept it in her pocket,
Underneath those glowin' irons
She knew to keep it warm.

Eight times in the night,
I saw her gleamin' eyes
Eight times I couldn't sleep.

Oh, oh, oh sister
Oh, oh, oh sister
How could you do this thing to me?
Because of you,
Because of you,
Because of your desires
I see no fortune awaiting me.

What's left of that life
Is drowning in blue
Regrets and bodies float on the waves
No comfort can be found here
No comfort for a while
But she's the only scourge I can love

Oh, oh, oh sister
Oh, oh, oh lover
How could you do this thing to me?
Because of you,
Because of you,
Because of your desires
I see no fortune awaiting me.

Eight times you showed your darkness
Your fear and your pride
Eight times I wished we were dead.

Even ones who thought they knew
How bad it would be
Couldn't break your lucky streak.

I had to, I had to,
I had to, I swear
You wouldn't expect a just betrayal.

Oh, oh, oh lover,
Oh, oh, oh lover
How could you do this thing to me?
Because of you,
Because of you,
Because of your desires
I see no fortune awaiting me.

Now I'm the one drenched in blue
Blue, blue, is it true?
That I've done my one right deed?
I'm standing on the edge
Of my weakened values
Can I sense the light I have freed?

Oh, oh, oh killer,
Oh, oh, oh killer
How could you do this thing to me?
Because of me,
Because of me,
Because of my actions
I see no fortune awaiting me.

Thank you!
Emily: When I see a poem of yours, I tell my dog, shhh...it's Emily: You are a gifted poet and you never ever fail to deliver with your dynamic imagination. I love the imagery, descriptions and flow...the repeating phases tend to heighten the intensity....You are such a unique writer:

Now I'm the one drenched in blue
Blue, blue, is it true?
That I've done my one right deed?
I'm standing on the edge
Of my weakened values
Can I sense the light I have freed?

And the ending....OMG: Now you've gone & killed her! Amazing...slowly building and simply brilliant. Bravo once again.....and I thank you so much. Dale
