Arresting Words

Arresting Words

A Poem by Emily

How do I express myself
Barred by distance and language
How do I expel my deepest fears
Alone

I feel powerless against the world
Her world
My world
No matter how much I beat my head
Against the wall

How do I convey a quiver of a voice
Or a scream or a tear or a flicker of an eye
Onto a page
My love, my worry, my fear
Unsaid
Locked inside

What do words boil down to?
Sounds and Symbols
But it's all I have
Ain't it a shame
