I Plead the 14th

I Plead the 14th

A Poem by Drew Given
"

Inspired by a (presently) -26 downvoted comment on the libertarian subreddit: "How does 200 years of racist laws and policies that affect generational wealth fit into the definition of self-reliance?"

"

Welcome to the privilege hive mind,

F**k yours, I got mine

Pull up your bootstraps and get in line

It’s your own damned fault if you’re falling behind

We’re moving too fast forward, no time to rewind

Forgetting that not all wounds are healed by time

Tunnel-vision-blind to cyclical lives

Telling ourselves cynical lies

Pretending everything’s alright so we can sleep at night

Out of mind, in or out of sight

Grasping at shadows when more comes to light

Believing all Americans share the same plight

Putting faith in the system like it was created by Christ

Yep. That all sounds about white.
