Rising Tide

Rising Tide

A Poem by Drew Given
"

Metaphors and s**t

"

What we believed a pond has become a sea

Now it rages, spilling over the walls

We thought we’d built so high

Fissures form with every wave

Water seeping through the cracks, eroding it all away

And the masons look to the sky

We fill the breach with sand, but it doesn’t hold for long

The ocean roars with sirens' songs

And the watchers avert their eyes

We gather on the high ground, ask how to quell the tide

While those with boats are at the wall

Chipping away from the inside
