A mothers lament

A mothers lament

A Poem by DfWigley

Is there any news of my son John?

Enlisted, off to the war he has gone

Somewhere at the front we are told

So smart in his uniform, brave and bold.

He’d be twenty one now, still just a boy

Our only child, our dear our joy

It’s been three years and still no sight

I’d tuck him in bed and kiss him goodnight.

Is there any news of my son John?

As boys go he is second to none

Fighting in trenches, the mud and gore

We want him home now and far from the war
