The journey Ahead

Its really short. Its about an Apocalypse which will happen in 2033. Spock is not a Vulcan here! Any opinions,alterations are most welcome.

It’s the year 2033. The apocalypse which was supposed to happen in 2012 will finally take place. Scientists have given us time until September 2034. The technology has seen advancements beyond imagination. Our physics textbooks have been rewritten. We now travel millions of miles in a matter of hours due to the ‘warp’ capabilities in our spaceships. We have 17 explorer ships in our starfleet. They will search our galaxy for a new home. Once we find the correct planet the evacuation of earth will begin ASAP.

I’m James Kirk the captain of ISS Enterprise. The Enterprise should be ready in an hour to begin its journey and lead the rest of the starfleet in search of our new home. I was sitting on the bridge and monitoring the last preparations, just then my first officer Mr.Spock comes in with a disappointed look on his face and says,”What have we done to our mother Earth. It’s such a shame that we have to leave our home and look for a new one.”

I was 17 in the year 2018. I was applying in the starfleet with an aspiration to become a starfleet captain. I rose through the ranks and finally I'm here. By the year 2019 the global warming had taken a sinister turn. Population of the world had surpassed 10 billion. The CO2 emissions had increased exponentially. The temperatures were rising all over the world. Polar ice caps were melting. Sea coasts around the world were submerged underwater. People in the continental region had other problems. Skin cancer had increased tenfold in the equatorial and adjacent regions. The ozone layer was a thing of the past. You couldn’t step in the sunlight without heavy protective gear. The minimum temperature was 39°C and the maximum was 67°C. The places we once called meadows had become barren deserts and deserts felt like hell had surfaced. People were fleeing from the Equatorial regions to cooler regions to the north and south.

Entire world was in chaos. The ocean currents which facilitate the survival of all living beings were dying. Agriculture had taken the worst hit. There was a heavy scarcity of grains.

By 2026 the entire equatorial regions had been emptied. Antarctica was the most densely populated region in the world. Far southern regions of the South America and Africa and far northern regions of Europe, Asia and Canada constituted the remaining safe havens.

There were no more borders. Entire world was a single country called the ‘Internation’, which had two major regions called the ‘Northern Internation’ and the ‘Southern Internation’. Although most of the emissions CO2 and other greenhouse gases had been stopped almost completely the rise in the temperature showed no signs if stoppage as if Mother Nature was punishing us saying,”You are no more worthy of being called as my children.”

The Internation General Assembly decided that we have to leave planet Earth and look for another planet. Planet Earth was uninhabitable. We don’t have any time to correct ourselves but you have. You have the future of your planet in your hands. Either you make it or break it. So work towards a better future so that your planet must not see the fate planet earth had to see.

“Attention all aboard this is your captain James Kirk. We are ready to warp. The ignition will begin in 3 mins. Get ready for the Journey Ahead.”
