across the room

You look at me from across the room

Our eyes meet

I turn away

Tinged red

This can’t work

I can’t have you

You’re meant for someone else

Someone you pass by without a glance

someone that follows you around

like a lost puppy

i promised to help her

and so i stay

with my promise

Though we are both at ease together

Smiles and laughter we’ve shared

It can’t work

I have to keep my head high

Give you a polite smile

And we move on our way

We both know it won’t work

But from far away it all seems

okay
