the poem is domestic violence through the eyes of a child, fortunately for me i never experienced it...

Hands whirl around

Thumps and screams muffled

I raise my blanket over my head

Try to drown out the words

 But I still hear screaming

He is a demon

 

Glass shattering

I try to shut it out

Not anymore

Enough is enough

Broken bruised and hurt

 

My own flesh and blood

Crumpled on the ground

Liquor bills piled high

Empty bottles beside the door

 

On the outside we look normal

Inside it’s a grotesque mess

Filth and stench swirl the house

Wish I was amouse crawl away and hide

 

Hope for courage because

Tonight I wanted to stand up

Courage failed me

Just another night on the outside
