The Inevitable End of Henry Morris Talbert

The Inevitable End of Henry Morris Talbert

A Story by D. M. Anderson
"

Henry fights a loosing battle against the forces of darkness.

"

"I don't have to fight you.", he said through clenched teeth, "I just have to destroy you."

The thing before him quivered with mirth, it's inhuman intentions searing directly into

Henry's mind. A sharp pain that lingered just behind the eyes, somehow forming into

thoughts that poisoned the surrounding tissues with unholy understanding.

Foolish child. You do not frighten me. I am your nightmares made manifest. I am the

festering of the soul. I am defilement. I. Am. Fear.

Henry felt the warm trickle of blood leaking from his nostrils, his brow furrowed and

teeth grinding as he fought the urge to flee in terror from the abomination towering over

him.

He crossed himself and closed his eyes in prayer, beseeching God for the strength to

banish the demon before it could cause more harm.

Your god cannot help you, Henry Morris Talbert.

Henry felt suddenly nauseous, like being gut-punched and spun around until vomit

burned his throat. The bible slipped from his fingers as his balance wavered. He recited

the Lords prayer aloud, his voice stumbling. Lips parched and cracking, tongue swollen

from where he had unknowingly bitten it as he fought to retain consciousness.

The tenebrous thing seemed to bloat with every moment Henry fought against it. His

fear and doubt feeding it's already massive size until it nearly filled the room. Tentacles of

deepest black slithered outwards in all directions, staining the ceiling and walls with

decay. It soon surrounded Henry with it's corruption. He was trapped.

The creature's body seemed to stretch inward rather than outward, backwards into

forever, a void of utter darkness without beginning or end. The impossibility of physics

broke what little remained of Henry's sanity. Tears of blood filled his vision and he felt

himself falling upwards into oblivion's kiss. In that instant, Henry Morris Talbert ceased to

be.

Author's Note

D. M. Anderson
Just a bit of flash fiction, mostly as an exercise for my writing group. Feel free to tear it apart. It has no beginning, and a quick ending, but that was the point of the exercise.

Has enough information to stand on its own, or be worked into a larger piece. Nice work. I like it.
