Flytrapper

Flytrapper

A Poem by Jessica Elaine Stevens [Faiteach]

i am
succubus,

i am
corrupted- docile demon,
i coat souls in honey
to make the swallowing easier
if you let me,
i will eat you alive-
spread the jaws of my ribcage,
like the petals of some virile, fly-catching flower,
the sweet fruit of my soul
beating tempestuously, a candied apple for the taking
you think it such a precious prize

but i am a manmade,
Venus
toothy bones and a chest cavity
full of caustic
bitterness
into which you will dissolve
and thusly used up to slime,
-regurgitated.

I liked the broken root like twists and turns of this piece. The first seventeen of so lines have a great deal of continuity. You did a very nice job of transforming something old into something new with the way you described things. I also like the potential reference to Adam and Eve in the Garden here.
