One night I told him I loved him and he told me I was stupid.

I said those words
because I thought you were asleep
a secret I meant to keep-
but you heard me.

And now I don't know what to do-
I think I'm stupid too,
I suppose I should be happy we agree.
We get along so famously
I pray you don't get rid of me

I know our time has a limit
I was hoping we could beat it-
the Clock, this time.
Keep the hands from sweeping away

that I only refer to

by their first names-

It's a simple way
of keeping the Future at bay
Because maybe if I say-
"I'm leaving you on Saturday,"
you won't realize that was yesterday--
