Perfect Love

Perfect Love

A Poem by Destiny_Brown

The thought

Just the thought

Of my beloved leaving me

I might as well die right here

I know that’d never happen

He’s good

Very good to me

Patient

Gentle

Reckless

To love someone like me

Why does she keep saying that?

Doesn’t she understand by now

What it means

Why can’t she just understand

Special type of case

It takes a certain type of brokenness

To fear love

And not even know

But that’s why he’s good

Who would’ve told her?

No one would’ve come along

She’d been a ghost forever

A ghost the world made her

In the world she had nothing

But in his heart she has everything

Not just everything

But everyone

And she’s everywhere

And perfect

Because he’s perfect

And through his eyes she’s perfect

White as snow

In him she’s a her

In him she’s one

In him she’s love

In him she’s a dove

It’s a certain type of love

That washes away pain

And tortured images in her mind the world gifted her with

The world gave her a lot of gifts

Lots of sweets but in them were venom

So she’ll starve

And go hungry

We all have a hunger

But she likes starving because she knows

That the fullness that follows

Would have been worth it

Worth it to starve for her beloved

She can’t comprehend what any of this means

But the words are true

From faithlessly searching

To shaken

Then hungry

Learning to love is like learning to cry
