if you got to know me..

if you got to know me..

A Poem by destiny_bacardi

how could you just leave a part of you

you never got to know

how could you abandon me

and not stay to watch me grow

im sure you would have liked me

and liked the things i do

im sure you would have liked me

just as much as id like you

i never understood why you never came around

it looks like what is lost is never to be found

im sure if you were around things wouldnt be that bad

i wouldnt always be so somber i'd finally have a dad

ouch! this one hit me personally. i know how this feels, been there...my own was on the road all the time supposedly "on a business trip", but was actually with some girlfriend...and when he was home, i'd get friendly with his fists...
i can't tell you how much this touched me, the sign of a true poem. damn.

Yes...that exactly true. Personally, this touched me deeply and it hurts a bit inside. Very well done. Beautiful write.

That last line really drives its way home. I suppose I am one of those kids who can really relate to something like this...I have gone through this exact scenario in my head since I was a wee lad.
Wonderful piece. Truly. :)

Your poem is very emotional, especially with the surprise ending. Unfortunately, there is a lot of scarred children from broken homes. Your writing is easy to read and understand. Well done.

Last word is resounding in my head. Not sure about the style, form, or delivery though. The last line is basically all I will remember about this piece if I remember anything at all.

Poignant , lovely write of an absent father. Like the flow.

Very heartfelt and meaningful - I only wish though that you'd used more punctuation. I found myself stopping occasionally to mentally-comment on the lack of one piece of punctuation or another.

Far too often, kids grow up without a father in their lives. I was so fortunate to have both my parents while growing up, and they each played a very vital role in shaping and molding me into the person I am today. I can only imagine not having one or the other in my life. Sadly for may, such is not the case unfortunately.
A very heartfelt and touching piece of writing. Sure does make one think...
