Even with the crispness of the bitter winter cold, the clogged atmosphere made it difficult to breathe. They were surrounded. Bound between the skeletal remains of a village brought to its ruins, they hid from the threatening shadows which were rummaging the grungy alleyways. “Silence you fools,” hissed one of the shadows. “Do you not hear the unsteady breath? Behind a dumpster at the end of the alley were two individuals, a boy and a girl, trying to remain cloaked from the daunting silhouettes. “I…I can’t control it…” the girl panted as her lungs fought the overwhelming harshness of the air. The boy grasped her hand in his as he whispered, “Yes you can. They’ll leave soon. I promise. Stay focused, only a little longer.” © 2012 destineepaige |
