Searching

Trying to find a place in life
I feel like dead space
Like the world turned it's back on me and spit in my face
Running in my dreams chasing truth
Looking left to right
Don't know which road to run down to
Searching for a heart to call my own
Or just that one person to make me feel like i'm not alone
I keep searching and searching
No answers have been found
Blinded by ignorance
I walk towards sound

This isn't bad, however it lacks elegance. Instead of capturing some form of flow, the entire piece rambles forwards until it crashes. Remebering, everything in writing must be done with a purpose. Why do the syllables differ from line to line? Why do these two lines ryhme, but these others don't? How does the imagery interact with the rest of my poem? It is these and a thousand more questions that result in a terrific piece. When one tries to write without an understanding of the importance of "meaning," the purpose of the piece is lost to a sea of chaos. Keep at it and work to perfect your craft. Good luck!
