Ink (I Want)A Poem by Derek NallChange of perspectiveIf my heart could paint a picture, your silhouette would be my Mona Lisa But today just didn't work out in my favor, Ill say… Let the needs outweigh the wants and let the trees grow…for once Let my character shed the shadows The wind passing through the leaves, desperate to hang on The friction between us is just fiction beneath us…we can rise above Leaping over infernos, the edges of my toes singed with ghosts of yesterday My fingertips grazing the blue temptations of the sky…arousing a glimpse of tomorrow But I cant see clearly through a glimpse… The truth disguised in the dreams we wake to soon to believe in It’s exposed in the love notes we to often never receive And I perceive this day differently (I want to be your smile behind a flower) (I want to be the beam of sunlight peeking through the blinds reminding you that today is beautiful) (I want to be the check mark on your calendar…counting the days until you see me again) (And I want to be the ink in your pen…when you write…I love You) But today I find it hard to breathe a sigh of relief When the best parts of life…always tend to push me away And I'm left to stew in all things I simply cannot do for you, for them, for myself I can’t help but feel the strain Ill receive this day differently (I want to be your snooze button when you don’t want to lose any sleep) (I want to be the footprints...that led you straight to me) (I want to be the snowflakes...on your favorite winter day) (I just want to be there...I just want to stay) And I just want to be the ink in your pen…when you write…I love you The same way you became the ink to my thoughts when I think…I’ll miss you.
