Hated the HeartlessA Poem by Deon VisserWhere is your heart now brothers? Does it hide in the crevices and
shadows, Waiting for the right moment or
minute? Where is your heart now family? Is it hidden in cowardice or the
sad drape of pride, Or is it frozen still sleeping
deeply imbibed? Where is your heart now for
family and foe? Does it shrug and shy at ideas of
compassion, Or when times of despair are
near; Or when it knows that hurt will
come? Where is your heart for YOUR
brother, As he lays on death’s doorstep, Cancer coursing corrosively, through heart, through flesh,
through body and soul, As he wanes and withers as life
burns the last toll? Does it imagine good times in
order to forget, Is it so afraid to hurt that it
will deny feeling that, but regret, Where is your heart? WHERE IS IT? Does it so fear guilt and despair
that it will cower And cripple and fumble and fight, That most human thing called, Love? © 2014 Deon VisserFeatured Review
