Cammy Caterpillar

Cammy Caterpillar

A Story by dennissobers
"

Cammy felt alone due to how her friends treated her. This story created from another story Ernie Insect gives object lessons to readers showing that being different doesnt mean not being needed.

Cammy Caterpillar was always looking for food

Her friends didn't like her, they thought her to be quite rude

“She never plays with us” her friends would tend to grumble

“She is big and so fat and her belly always rumble”

Albert Ant would see her but thought “What a waste”

“She never saves anything she is such a disgrace”

Willie Worm didn't like her, all the leaves she would eat

Willie helped plants to grow but Cammy ate even in her sleep

Billie Bee also had a problem “She ate the plants that are sweet”

She wished she would go away, or for a human to squash her with their feet

They all came together and with a big fuss

Shouted out with one great voice “Get away from us”

Cammy quickly crawled away, afraid and trembling with fear

She tried to hide from the mob, she had to hide, but where?

She ran behind a leaf but losing her balance almost fell

But a sticky web came out of her holding her to the twig quite well

As she hung very still, above her the friends all stood

Looking around both up and down she was secure under the hood

So she heard the voices of the lot,  voices angry and mad

She couldn't help being always hungry, she couldn't help feeling sad

One said “I hope she fell off the branch and rolled into the street

Another “Maybe a bird got her, it sure would have a lot to eat

Still another “Wherever she is good riddance, we sure wont cry

She’s gone away no more to say but street street, tweet tweet, goodbye”

Cammy still clinging, sadly heard them all walk away

Dangling from the twig, thinking with each move she would sway

No longer feeling hungry due to the cruel words that were told

Started crying tears of disappointment but the tears made her feel cold

So by spinning she made a jacket by turning she made a disguise

When finished she sealed the cover, now no one can hear her cries

“Why are they treating me this way?

What did I do to them?

I ate some leaves, what’s the big deal

The world didn’t come to an end

If this is what they want

I’ll give them no reason to shout

I’ll stay right here, dangling in the air

And I will not come out”

So she closed her eyes right there and drifted off to sleep

And what a peaceful slumber in dreamland she was deep

Time passed, how long, he didn’t know but eventually awoke

Feeling quite sore looking for the door, cramped she was quite choked

“My I am stuck” she thought to herself “It seems I gained some weight”

“Guess they were right after all, I am fat from all the food I ate”

She found the door and squeezed out but something wasn't right

“I don’t recall me standing tall and my word what a sight”

The morning sunlight shining on her revealed a transformation so unique

Days ago she had what seemed like a hundred yet now had just six feet

And on her back majestic wings that can reach the highest sky

“What a dream, does this mean, Can I really fly?”

Fluttering the wings they worked without too much thought she waited for a breeze

Here we go, the wind picked her up slow and sailed with simple ease

“Whee heee”  she yelled,  flying without a care

“I can go up and down without a sound, I can go anywhere”

Quite tired from the experience but not wanting this fun to end

She sailed back East to the leaf finding there her old friends

They said “Hi my name is Albert you are welcomed in this tree

Please do stay, don’t go away, grace us with your beauty”

“What a sight you are” Willie said “I could watch you all day”

“The colors of yours, never bores, please won’t you stay?

Billy said “We don’t know who you are, but an impression you have made on me.

You’re not a waste like that disgrace, of a pest we know named Cammy.

I knew a Cammy, a bit chubby, slow, but she was kind

Never picked a fight with anyone and seeing truth she wasn't blind

I thank you for your welcome, but I’m sorry this way it has to be

For the one you rejected, when inspected, that caterpillar, Cammy, is me

Cammy flew off, leaving them all feeling ashamed

They lost someone special as each other now started to blame

Cammy kept to herself enjoying the world’s display

That’s why Butterflies are so lonely, right down to this day.
