IntroductionA Chapter by deng
Before you enter my world, you have to know a little about it. The reason for this introduction is very simple: there are many varieties of the races that live inside my world. So here's a list of the differences in races, which is common knowledge for everyone inside.
1)Humans Time has shown that humans, believed to be the weakest race of the intelligent races, are actually good at everything they set their minds to. They may not achieve crops good as those of centaurs, or herbalism great as that of fairies, or mining/smelting as awesome as that of dwarfs, but they can get pretty damn close to it. However unlike the other races, human population grows a lot faster than that of most of the other races, even though their lifespan is shorter. 2)ElvesAverage life span: 80-100 years. Believed to be the most beautiful race of them all. They look exactly like humans, with a couple of small differences. Elfish ears are pointy, and have no meat part. Also elfish facial expressions are more sharp than that of humans and are taller than most humans. 3)DwarfsElves live alongside nature. They cherish wilderness, and wild life as their own. They have much sharper sight and hearing, compared to that of humans. Also, they are masters of carpentry. Average life span: Unknown. More than 1000 years. They are short, about half the height of elves. Like many of the other descriptions, here dwarfs are always bearded. In their society beard represents stature. The longer the beard, the higher the stature. 4)HalflingsDwarfs also resemble humans, apart from the height. However dwarfs are a lot more resilient than humans. They are skilled at stonework and brewing alcohol. Dwarfish ale is said to be the best quality ale there is. They are overprotective of their women. It is said they have beards too. Average life span: 250-350 years. Shorter than Dwarfs. They resemble human children. Even adult halflings. The way you can distinguish them from human children is their pointy ears. However unlike elves, their ears have a meaty part. Halflings do not grow facial hair. 5)FairiesHalflings are exceptional at moving quiet, and fast. They have the ability to move extremely fast without making any sound. That is why they have chosen to serve as law enforcers, and all around behind-the-scenes helpers. Also extraordinary inventors. Average life span: 80-100 years. No bigger than 30 centimeters. Their eyes are different than those of the other species. Their iris is wider, and the eyes cover almost half of the face. Elfish like ears, and wings growing from around the scapula. Wing type depends of the region the fairy comes from. Most of them resemble transparent butterfly wings, with slightly different shape. 6)CentaursThey specialize in herbalism and mail-delivery. Being able to fly makes them good couriers for small packages and good information dealers. They also take great care for plant life. Fairies also have some kind of secret special herb mixes, which do different things. Other beings call all those special mixes with one name: fairy dust. Average life span: Unknown. Horses with the torso of a human, from the neck- up. They live in small wooden houses, in the fields. Hard- working, nature- loving, peaceful race. They only wear clothes when inside a populated area. Centaurs walk around naked in front of their own kind. 7)TrollsThey are responsible for the crops and livestock. They also help the forest, and wildlife to expand and survive. Average lifespan: 200-250 years. Violent race. Not much is known about them, because they show themselves only to goblins, which trade their goods. History says they have gray skin, no hair, pointy elvish ears, brute faces, horns from their mouths. The only clothes they wore back then was a line cloth over the intimate area. sensitive to light. 8)GoblinsTheir stonework could rival that of dwarfs. They also sell a weird material called silk. Very elegant. Nobody knows how they get it, and why they themselves don't wear it. Average lifespan: 250-350 years. Little green or gray frog-like short beings. Pointy ears, shifty eyes, and always on the lookout. Selfish and arrogant. Cunning and devious. They live mostly the life of thieves and black marketers. Average life span: Unknown. 9)Harpies Not much is known about harpies, except that they are extremely selfish, and tricky. There is a saying "When you see a harpy, keep an eye out for your shadow" implying they could steal even your shadow. Harpies are half bird- half human. They have a woman's chest and legs, and a bird's wings and tail-feathers. Long hair growing from the head, and to the back. Feathers covering the breasts, and the intimate area. It is also said that it is good luck if you part with a harpy, without it taking anything from you. Average life span: supposedly 100-150 years. However, due to extreme likeliness between individual harpies that has not been confirmed. 10)Dragons Look like a lizard with wings. There are many different shapes and sizes of dragons, but even the smallest adult dragon is at least twice as big as any human. They usually make caves in mountains, where they mostly don't come out. Nobody knows what they do, but at every dragon cave there is always a great deal of gems. That is why all kinds of beings gather and hunt them down, to take and split the wealth of the dragon. Dragons have extremely durable skin, and are magical, which makes them extremely valuable. Average life span: Unknown. Longer than that of elves. © 2010 dengAuthor's Note
