Used to Be's and Uselessness

Used to Be's and Uselessness

A Poem by demureminds

I used to wonder if anyone noticed

when those sleazy drops of dew

glistened down my cheeks,

the rivers rushing creases into

my skin and

leaving traces of sticky residue

behind a gallant smile

and sad eyes;

sometimes I thought they did.

I used to wonder how I got so good

at hiding behind silent remarks,

pouncing above stark comments

and crouching beneath a shield,

although I never was;

they just stopped moving towards me.

I used to think I was made of iron,

my mind a globular mess of atoms

colliding between breaths,

ready to take on a battle

if one should come;

but I was just

a wounded soldier

who lasted until the end.
