In The Darkness

In The Darkness

A Poem by demureminds

Sometimes I like the darkness,

the shadows as they creep over

the eyes of lost humanity,

the are real.

They lack of insincere smiles

we were told to paint on

when we felt like scum,

of embracing arms

gaping only to crush

our fragile feelings,

our bones and strength,

of words that spoke love

in heavenly catastrophe,

always enduring woe

and rekindling,

of the touch of warmth,

simmering our chill,

but they were only burning us.

Sometimes I like the darkness,

it speaks the truth

in volumes and no one has to hide,

for the light doesn’t shine

in the shadows,

and we stroll on the asphalt,

uncaring of passing cars,

we are free.
