Like Holiday Ornaments

Like Holiday Ornaments

A Poem by demureminds

Ornate lights,

bright convex smiles

you decorate on your face

like holiday ornaments,

cheer bubbling through your jaws,

false laughter erupting gaiety

and faulty elation,

who knew it was just the alcohol,

a little eggnog and delusive perception.

Hair done and painted faces,

tuxedoes and dresses

worn only for those special occasions,

the facades and empty beaming lips

shrouding masquerades of

distorted joviality,

artificial greetings

diffusing throughout a crowded room,

not one even realizing,

the infinite imitation

plastered on their vaseline

pageant faces.

life is what it is isnt it.. yes, many times we are put in places we'd rather not be, but we put up our front and manage through it.. which you've described here perfectly.. hey why do you think they have egg with extra nog in it.. its so everyone won't strangle each other haha

great work as always!

Connecting joyous holidays to dark, distorted emotions is exactly the type of poetry only clever writers can perform. One such as this. I was not expecting the alcohol reference, nor was I expecting the ending. Both are brilliant perks of the poem.
