An Alcatraz for Our Thoughts

An Alcatraz for Our Thoughts

A Poem by demureminds

If thoughts

worked

like criminals

and innocents,

how many of us

would make it?

How much could we

in one lifetime,

get away with?

The vicious thoughts

that corrode our minds,

each increment

at a time,

spreading,

influencing.

But what if

there were

and island,

like Alcatraz,

to keep these thoughts

contained?

What if

it were locked behind

heavy security,

massive gates,

but,

with a tired journey,

we could still visit

some days.

And on those days

we would see

our demented minds

behind

those walls,

blockaded

to keep us safe,

sane.

But then,

our thoughts

would glare

at us,

they’d snare,

slithering whispers,

invading peace

still planted there

inside

our minds,

until all of us,

were behind

those walls.

If thoughts worked

like criminals

and innocents,

wouldn’t we still be haunted?

haunting...It reminds me of 1984 and thought-crime....No Alcatraz for me thoughts...they'd get the chair, and most likely for being misunderstood...
