Soldier

Soldier

A Poem by dementedreality

Enter the battlefield.
A sword finds it's home.
Another life brought out of it's darkness.
No time to rest, everyone's bleeding out.

The smell of iron you've begun to chase.
Their gratitude expressed through oiled steel.
They've loosed their load.
Don apathetic armor, cover your wounds, carry on.

The everyday air corrodes as you breath in the rust.
Metal teeth embrace you with tainted love.
Lethargic, they can't create new wounds.
Halfway there by the time you find your feet.

The war rages onward, you find yourself at home.
Lift them up as their blades seek your back.
Free hands long for blades, but you wear them, your dripping badges of honor.
Wings made of bloodied blades drag you onward.
