The Sun and the Stars

The Sun and the Stars

A Poem by dementedreality

I can't be around you because you make me care.
As I try to lose myself, you bring me out of apathy.
Your luminescence burns away at my pain.
You deserve better than I, a broken machine of logic.
Unable to nourish my emotions as they slowly wither and die.
Then I see you and they flourish and come alive.
Better leave now, it's dangerous to be around you.
I must hide away in the darkness.
Where I can be finally be me.
Gentle lights flickering just as well.
Tucked away behind the clouds.
I know you won't seek the night.
A night lost to the illumination you cast.
It's best this way.
You whole and me incomplete.
I won't bring you into my embrace.
The edges of my broken self are too sharp.
So I'll gaze upon you from afar.
My luminescence shining gently in the dark.
For you are the sun and I am the stars.

This is absolutely beautiful, and I know how you feel- loving someone so inexplicably much, the only thing stronger than it is your own fear of yourself, and the even greater fear of hurting them just by being you. You make this feeling eloquent in a still very raw way. Thank you ever so much for this piece.
