It's the talking to her as an equal part that screws guys up. She's not a Goddess, she's not stupid, she's not "one of the guys" and she sure as hell isn't five years old. So far as I'm concerned that's all there is to it.

Not a fan of this idea of Senryu.
I'm sure this is good advice but unfortunately a lot of women don't want to be an equal, they want to be superior.

Great advice BR and a well structured Senryu my friend but here in Ireland 'picking up' girls is taken literally. The Irish Gypsy (aka Travellers) do a thing called the 'grab' where a prospective suitor basically carries a girl away and kisses her and they usually follow it through after a time, by getting wed. Note: Irish travellers have a very low divorce rate.
