Of Darwin and Lattes (Dance The Manta Ray)

Of Darwin and Lattes (Dance The Manta Ray)

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I spun this poem out of the Pixies song Dance The Manta Ray. I love the Pixies

"
I was dancing with the Manta rays
and fell in with the sharks
We were looking for Galapagos
The GPS went dark

We sent a message homeward bound
Picked up in India
That big call center in the sky
South of Siberia

Old Darwin found Galapagos
Before Starbucks showed up
With Marine Iguana Lattes
and seagull s**t syrup

He just had a crappy compass
and the royal navy
Somehow they found Galapagos
and fended off the scurvy

Old Darwin wrote his science book
of which is still in doubt
The world is full of idiots
Who want another route

You can lead a horse to water
but you can't make him drink
Teach science to an idiot
but you can't make him think

Do the Manta ray
Do the Manta ray
Your head can go real screw
With saucers chasing you
The Pixies
Dance the Manta Ray

you're welcome
Of Darwin and Lattes. I have to say that's one of the most clever titles for a poem I've come across recently. The parallels you draw between the past and the present truly are spectacular, especially considering they made the same trip with less convenient methods. Especially that last part, had me chuckling. Well done.

Im torn in too ways about htis poem, the content is good although i lost myself in bits. I love manta rays so i was drawn to this poem but in comparison to your other work the amazing flow your normally have is very disjointed and broken here.
I love the way it starts your descriptions and alsmost human like aspects you associate to animals once again just makes me adore your work.

Marine iguana lattes. seriously - just say that out loud. that's how poetry is supposed to sound. Besides the fact that you're funny - smart funny.

I love these lines! They put a smile on my face. This is one of the few humorous truths in everyday lives.

Haha … but watch out you are picking on my happy place. Disneyland …. pfft … that Starbucks, my friend. Go in feeling cantankerous and leave feeling at zen.

Coffee can do that for sure. So can tea. Thanks for stopping by Pryde
haha, what an ending... as always splashes of comedic gold and truth skillfully mixed as I am learning is your style.. this one is no exception... sad part about it is, the ones deemed idiots throughout history weren't half as bad as the ones who hold a lot of the glory... funny how that works.. another entertaining write and that last stanza is pretty damn awesome..
