Aha! The truth, all in one poem; politics are nothing but a popularity contest these days to see who can rally up the most support. Surely it has been this way for quite some time (a few centuries, even) and the best explanation for it comes from a comedy video I've seen quite a few years back, a quote going along the lines of, "The president shouldn't be the shiniest of two s***s," (not verbatim, but I do believe I've got the general idea right) a quote that seems to work perfectly for the elections these days. I surely enjoyed this one!
