Watch our Nation Burn

Watch our Nation Burn

A Poem by Baby Ricochet

They view the world through rifle sites
complicit in their lies
Rigging the next election race
when gold falls from their skies
Hysterics and conspiracies
Parades of lunatics
Placating to the ignorant
Yellow press fanatics
Sucking billions from the coffers
Tax haven unfair trade
Double digit interest rates
Where con men have it made
Deals and whispers in the chamber
A crime that's never seen
Snatching candy from a nation
destroying all our dreams
Decisions made in higher courts
by unelected men
A principled democracy
subverted once again
Send our work to other nations
Denied a living wage
left to toil in obscurity
A new world order slave
The game is rigged against us
A point of no return
We can sit by the Potomac
and watch our nation burn

Author's Note

Baby Ricochet
For those who were paying attention you know the tea party inspired "operation American spring" was an epic fail. As much as I knew it would be even I was surprised by how bad their turnout was. Despite my opinion of the Tea party to be a pack of rubes funded by the Koch brothers to further their own insanely far right agenda I found operation American spring's total failure to be disappointing. Even our far right crazies can't be bothered to rally anymore. We the people suffer from apathy of the worst sort and I believe nothing short of a Revolution is going to change the direction this Nation's been heading since Reagan was in office. A nation of concentrated wealth, unlimited corporate control and a massive underclass dimmed down by misinformation and trite entertainment. The "bread and circus'' of the 21st century

Thanks Frieda
Phenomenal words poet. Thank you so much for having the nerve, the audacity, which I find refreshing. The truth is ugly and we are forced to keep our blinders narrow and tight. If only everyone not only seen the truth, but if we all put our feet down and went against the current. What a world we'd have then!! Thank you

Nice piece,
Your final verse in this was perfect to close with. Our nation is overdue for a revolution, the 99 percent proved nothing is changed peacefully. I prefer a peaceful transition in power but I fear that time has passed for the people to claim that power. Such talks now verge on terrorist ideals. Good read thanks for sharing.

I don't know anything about US politics. From this writing I'm guessing you're not too happy about it.
There's an old joke in the UK. Goes a bit like this.
Notice in local newspaper. " A meeting of the regional Apathetic Society was held in the guild hall on Saturday last. NO one turned up. It was deemed to be a complete success."
Seems it's still happening chez vous.

That apathy is indeed doing us in... As always, you have touched a nerve Mark - I wish your words could be heard and heeded by all Americans.
