Americans. We're not the most sophisticated people in the word. We're not the smartest. We're not the healthiest We're not the classiest. We're not a lot of things. But we are compassionate. We lend a helping hand. We root for the underdog. We'll give a guy a break, We care. We care about each other. We care about humanity. Americans are cool like that.

Thank you sir
That's the key word..."now"...so many think on it and by then it is too late, it is inherent in all of us to act now...I wish more would x

As do I. Thank you Ruth
In my most honest and humble opinion, I believe that as Americans we do not focus enough inside our borders with companies and commercials, you know the ones, for just pennies a day........... I understand that those kids need help, too, but so do ours.

For sure. Thank you Corset
I agree. Here in Michigan. Enough shelters for the poor. Most are funded by the CHURCH and kind people. Here in the USA. God still take care of the poor. I donate to the churches that feed and shelter the poor. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a important topic.

There is much good that needs to be done for the people in our country and around the world. one out of seven Americans are on food stamps, many children go to bed hungry. A local motel is now filled with homeless families that have filled our classrooms with unexpected kids in need of an extra smile, kind word coats and warm boots. We are a generous society and at our very roots we care deeply about those that suffer. But we also waste enough food to fill the Rose Bowl to the brim on a daily basis. I think our moral dilemma comes from wanting material things when sometimes the money from those frivolous purchases could change someone else's life.

That kid's got a smile on his face, a loaf of bread and a warm sweater and something frivolous in his right hand (I'm assuming it's frivolous as it's brightly colored and in the hand of a child) so...not entirely sure where the moral dilemma comes into play, or that this kid's got it so rough...but I completely get the message.

Great. Now I want bread. So much for Atkins. Thanks a lot, Baby :-p

Seriously, though...very poignant piece. We should all take a look at our moral compasses and get ourselves back on track. xoxo

A sobering reminder, Mark. I loathe the wastefulness of some, but you are so right to point out that we in America have it in us to be so caring...
