(I Don't Want) A Beer With The President

(I Don't Want) A Beer With The President

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I made this one up while f*****g off at work. It's a good thing I'm not the President.

"

I don't want a beer with the President
He has to be better than me
I don't want a beer with the President
Leading us is where he should be

A head of state's not a homeboy
Hanging in some s****y bar
Doing shots with all his buddies
Then throws up on his car

I don't want a beer with the President
I want him in his office working
I don't want a beer with the President
I'm the loser drunk and shirking

A leader's not a drunken oaf
He's not one of the boys
The boys are nothing but followers
Making a lot of noise

I don't want a beer with the President
A leader's not a brain dead slob
I don't want a beer with the President
He needs to do his f*****g job

An Alcoholic Commander in Chief
Who owes back child support
Calls an air strike on his x wife
A mission we should abort

I don't want a beer with the President
I want a leader I can trust
He's got his fingers on nuke triggers
He can't be one of us

Author's Note

Baby Ricochet
There's a difference between being in touch with the common man and being the common man. Like in the Corps the Officers kept an emotional distance from us grunts. If they didn't they would become one of us and would lose their ability to effectively lead. That's why this "The President is one of the guys" shtick annoys me. A real leader isn't one of the guys, He rose above us to take command but still knows where he came from.

I never thought of it that way but I think you're right. You can't lead and follow. Thanks for honing my point of view.

Another not-so-common topic, BR. I'm a bit overwhelmed by romantic poems so thank you for this. You have interesting insights that make a lot of sense.

I must say, I hold myself to the opinion that our current president fails anything he attempts because the opposing party is doing everything in their power to keep him from accomplishing anything, then criticizing him for doing nothing at all. It's a simple manipulative tactic, although I suspect the two candidates that ran for presidential office were both unsatisfactory, and to put it bluntly: making us choose the shiniest between two s***s. Then again, I've been told I'm too young to have political affiliations. *shrugs*
You certainly have a point, though, there's a difference between the average Joe, and the man who empathizes with the average Joe. Keep it up!

Very well said. I completely agree with you: the least we want is some inexperienced average Joe sitting in office, not knowing how to spend his day. Wonderful poem!

You make a splendid point here, Baby. Yes, we should be electing our leaders because they are the best among us, not because they are just like us. Bravo.

I agree 100% with you. You want men and woman of strength and wisdom. A common man can't run the USA. Need education, strong people with skills near him with knowledge of new world and old world. Respect is earned and a great leader concentrate on taking care of the country. Sharing a beer is cool and there are times in life for this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and words on a good topic.

You have a point.A leader can't be one of the boys because he has his job to do and he needs to be better because he wanted the job.
