Nam Vets

Nam Vets

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

Inspired by Comments made by Sam Dickens and Sue Hart on my poem "Over The Crimson Sky" My generation of warrior came home heroes. Nam vets got spit on and called "baby burners." That was a travesty.

"
Vietnam veterans
are owed an apology
They were the scapegoats
of failed foreign policy
They're unsung heroes
They should be given their due
Vietnam veterans
This veteran salutes you

I dont even know where to begin on this one. I lived through those days. The way these men were treated is beyond shameful. Thank you for this.

I agree. I get the homeless Veterans into my job. I allow them to stay in the bottle room. Ain't enough room in the homeless shelters. Too many rules for some men fighting internal struggles with no place to go. Korean war and Vietnam left a lot of me with battles to fight till death free them. I saw the old timers in the Army. Many used the alcohol to keep their sanity. Thank you for the reminder. Old Soldiers need to be thanks and remembered.

No homeless Vets on my Watch ! you find that man and he can have my bed. I will gladly share my home and all i have thanks to him and other Vets.
Almost everyone in America has an Empty bed and another chair at the table, so why is there any homeless Vets?
He gave me that bed , He can damn sure use it ! He gave me that table I eat at and he can sure damn use it!

It was despicable.

Veterans indeed deserve far more respect and honor than they do now. It's a shame the government uses them to their own use, and care little for their lives. Nicely penned.

I always thought it was ridiculous that all veterans couldn't live a comfortable life. They deserve far more than they receive from the government. Thank you for sharing this. It's the first veteran poem I've read on here and I'm glad I happened by it.

I volunteer at a shelter and many of the homeless are vietnam veterans. It is a tragedy. You are so right BR - they are unsung heros. Bless you!
