The Great WC Account Scare

The Great WC Account Scare

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

For those of you who missed it the WC went bat s**t crazy for a few minutes today

"
There was a panic on the WC
We lost all our accounts
They fell into some cyber hole
and wouldn't come back out
The PM's they flew back and forth
Dear God what's going on
Now all our work has disappeared
No backup it's all gone
With sweaty palms and bulging veins
the panicked writers stared
into their blank computer screens
for work that wasn't there
Then came the WC miracle
Our work just reappeared
It was as if nothing happened
That s**t was freaky weird
I don't know what really happened
All I got is theories
A debugging system ran Amok
Some other kind of query
Cyberspace is the wild west
anything can happen
We trust the work we sweat over
To some weird contraption
Those of us who witnessed chaos
survived to tell this tale
Make sure you have your work backed up
If there's an epic fail

you know, this happened in 2007 or was it 8 or 9. I think it was 2007 - the whole site crashed and the work DID NOT come back. I lost forty pieces of writing. Most were blog entries but there was one journal entry and one poem that I could not exhume and it still haunts me. Save your crap. Best advice ever. A lot of brilliant writers packed and left as well. I'm glad this was just a blip.

I have the originals of all my work in Libra office on my hard drive. So if my hard drive crashes I'.. read more
oh good grief. Most of my favorites were written down in a notebook first, though so I guess I've got my own archaic form of backup

Wow I must of missed it. Glad it got resolved though. Nicely written and rhymed as usual Mark.

The rhyme was perfect in this poem, your description of the actual event transformed it into a melodramatic scene fit for a dooms-day kind of movie, which speaks highly of your skills as a writer... loved it from start to finish! :)

Thanks for stopping by B. I appreciate it.
Great work. You have mastered the quick a-b-a-b.

Well... I keep several different backups, so I wasn't worried to begin with. Plus the errors I was getting were SQL related, so I figured their servers were just having a few issues, and it was nothing to worry about. (SQL error would generally refer to an issue with the sites main server, not so much the individual data entries) I used to work IT for Microsoft, so I was calmer than most. (I had several people message me that I had never even talked to before freaking out about it. Each of them I just calmly pasted in my last response of not worrying about it)

Thans for stopping by. I appreciate it
Wow, this is extremely interesting, I wonder what was going on in writer's heads while they couldn't access their portfolios, that is kind of scary losing intellectual creativity.

By the way, the photo you used is super funny, the photo could be interpreted as restrain that writer's intelligence and erase all evidence from the internet that he's a writer, then make him think that he imagined he was a writer and keep him under control.

Great work BR, I agree with Elisa Laura, Coyote Poetry and David Lewis Paget advice.

thank you squinkia
i love your concept about cyberspace being the wild west. I think it's perfect! It really embodies the chances and the rugged landscape that people can face dealing with all the random flows of glitch and twitch of the cyber nerves.

I've always backed up everything, even before the great purge of long ago. Yet, your ink is a great and witty reminder to those who may just have blown in on some cyber wind, that keeping copies off line is always good mojo.

Great Creativity!
