On The Great Gatsby

On The Great Gatsby

A Story by Baby Ricochet
"

by F. Scott Fitzgerald . My favorite book of all time.

"
When I think of some of my favorite books The Great Gatsby is always top of the list. F Scott Fitzgerald's mad cap jag through roaring 20'S New York trendy scene of lavish parties, forbidden love and bathtub gin. I've read the book several times and can burn through it in just a few hours (it's short) It's laugh out loud funny in spots yet tragic in others. Fitzgerald's prose boarder on poetry and it's a great time capsule of a very short lived scene in American history that was confined to a small in crowd (white folks with money) of only a few cities in the North. I've never seen so much as one movie version of the book and I never will. There's no way Fitzgerald's style could be translated onto the screen and all I'll get out of it is pissed off for wasting my time on another great book Hollywood ruined by trying to make a movie out of it. I've never read another one of Fitzgerald's books either. I know it'll pale to Gatsby and I want to remember Fitzgerald that way. If I could fit my a*s into a time machine roaring 20's New York would be my first destination. I'd get liquored up on illegal hooch (and possibly go blind) at a speakeasy in Harlem, dance to the crazy Jazz sound of the day and make it with a flapper chick. Awesome.

Ha, yep I can just picture you in that era Mark...flapper chick on your knee, snapping your fingers to cool jazz with Mint Julep in hand, and a shitass grin on your face. Enjoyed!

I absolutely refused to read the book in high school, but the movie was like WOAH! What an exciting time it must've been to live in. Debauchery rules!

It must have been. Thanks for stopping by CP.
it's a tragic love story ol' sport, if you like this sort of book you'd probably like Dr. Zhivago as well.

Reflections on classics are always the best, I'm currently delayed on reading The Great Gatsby. My queue list already contains Wuthering Heights, The Memory Keeper's Daughter, and The Fountainhead in that order, aha. Perhaps I should rush The Great Gatsby and move it to the front?
Nonetheless, I still maintain high hopes for Fitzgerald on his novel if it's as good as everyone says.

It is really funny in places. That's for sure. Thanks for stopping by Tai
An interesting reflection. One of my favorite books, as well.

I tried to read another Fitzgerald novel, Tender is the Night, but couldn't get into it like Gatsby. I think it's safe to say that Gatsby was his crown jewel.

That's for sure. Thanks for stopping by Diana. I appreciate it
I too love the book. I was so tempted to watch the newest Gatsby because the visuals of the setting looked so amazing...but I didn't and I won't. It is one of the best books that came out of that lost generation. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I think I'll have to read it again soon. I never took to Catcher in the Rye (don't everyone hang me now) because I thought they were all crazy as bedbugs. And don't feel bad about the spelling. Once I was starting a new class and I was talking to this girl Gretchen as I made out my name tag. We made out name tags because that's what dorks do for the first class and I walked around all night with my name tag on that said...Gretchen, and not one damn person noticed. So don't you worry about it some of us have done much worse!
