My Christmas Girl

A self reminder

The Violence lurking in my past
The dark tales of the gun
I never told her everything
The things I've seen and done

She's seen me wallow in my wounds
From nightmares in my sleep
She's seen me sob without control
From secrets that I keep

And she's always been there for me
Of times I've gotten sick
Overwhelmed by blood and honor
of memories I keep

The Holidays are here again
and she's my Christmas girl
She's full of smiles and full of joys
The way that she unfurls

I'd rather die than let her down
Burdened by violence past
My secrets they can rest awhile
Times of a different caste

I've got to be my happy self
So she can understand
No matter what I did before
I'm still her loving man

This is a beautiful tribute to the sacrifices we make and the secrets we hold to keep those we love safe and happy. I cannot imagine the burden of it all and the love you must have for her to carry it quietly within your heart so that she can rest easy. What struck me the most is how you are both there for each other. It's a deeply emotive piece.
