Inspired by lazy rappers, talentless though smoking hot female singers, moronically childish country western and above all, predictable hipster folk bands.
Do new bands play guitars today or do they slaughter cats I quote the name of Jimmy Page I get who the hell is that
At least most know who Hendrix was and maybe good old Kieth The man's a real life zombie show What language does he speak
Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Eddie from Van Halen Remember Slash don't say it's so He's sober clean and shaven
Ziggy Stardust spiders from mars Iggy and the Stooges The Sex Pistols and Joy Division Heavy weight influences
Public Enemy east coast posse old school hip hop rap NWA west coast gangsta Now it's sell out crap
These kids today what can I say They listen to any trash They wouldn't know great music if it shot cocaine up their a*s
So I'm getting old and cranky as I shake my fist at youth In my day music was better so f**k off you little d****e
NWA (Niggaz with attitude) caused one of the biggest ruckus at my house ever when I was a lad. As soon as my parents started hearing raps like "Crazy mutha fucka named ice cube/ in a gang called niggaz with attitude/ when I'm called off/ I got a sawed off/ squeeze the trigger and the bodies are hauled off' (NWA straight outta Compton) coming from my bed room they went ballistic. So like any kid I put on my headphones so I couldn't hear them. Mama didn't raise no fool

HAHAHA! Truth my brother! I just sat down to write a screenplay about a gangsta rapper and I pulled some videos on youtube. it was sickening and I could not believe what was passing for music. Sad, but at least we have the classics!
I was born in 65 and learned that the dials on the radio turned in 74. I wasn't really into the old school rock and leaned more toward soul/funk and what evolved into disco - and in the 80s I stuck to the mainstream rock and new wave for the most part - but Hendrix and Clapton can flipping play the strings off a guitar. Both were/are amazing. This is a great poem.
Joy Division - my favorite band, probably ever, with the Pistols and Bowie, you got me hooked. I enjoyed this one a lot, thanks Rico, I am totally with you here.

Bono said joy division were like a dark cloud over a clear blue sky. With out doubt joy division were one of the most innovative and influential bands of the 1970s. For the 1980s i gotta go with the pixies

The Dead Kennedys are the best band I ever saw live (with Biafra up front) - such a prophetic writer, and with East Bay Ray on guitar I think they had a hand in a lot that came later.

There's a great documentary on them on YouTube called "gouge" they talk to bowie, pj Harvey, the guys from radiohead and of course everyone in the pixies except for Kim deal. (maybe she was in rehab) bowie said the pixies and sonic youth were the most important bands of the 1980s, I've not seen to many bands save some of the people who played for the troops. I suffered though a Toby Keith show in kewait. That was one long, torturous show. Country ain't my thing

Sonic Youth too, quite underrated really. Toby Keith anywhere would be a bust. You have gone above and beyond the call of duty with that one.
I don't know. I live in this social circle that knows all music. Appreciation for new and old. And there is a ton of fantastic new stuff out there. I don't know what's on the radio, but I know what comes to town and what is town and who is playing live music out there and what is in my itunes. there is just so much music. And my baby friends, not old enough to drink, they come with me to see Bob Weir and they listen to the albums that their parents handed down from those old college days...
I really enjoyed this stanza:
" Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray
Eddie from Van Halen
Remember Slash don't say it's so
He's sober clean and shaven "
very funny and well phrased!
Everybody loves Iggy and the Stooges!!! Everybody.
I was at a party a month or two ago. It was Scotty and my friend Travis's birthday party. They are both a year or so older than me. It was kind of a rag-tag party, a house with long haired boys for the most part. There were some used-up jock types there and, well everybody there might have been a bit usual and there were a lot of musicians there...
but I can't forget the young man, who pulled me into the garage and said we were going to be friends. He was one of those lost teenagers. He looked like Bowie. He had the stooges on his ipod through the speaker and he danced in stilted, beautiful movements, held his can of beer with a kink to the wrist...
he was all image. But look at the image he chose.
and I see thousands of those kids around these days.
(I just realized how inappropriate I just revealed my life to be. lol)
Well written and funny, but you do come off like a cranky old man a bit. Hang with children and teach them. Haha, that's how we do it. Ugg, that sounds so much more wrong than it is in action.

Iggy was the original rock and roll wild man. Bowie borrowed quite a bit from the New York Dolls and Iggy as well for Ziggy Stardust. He had a thing for Kabuki theater too.
okay okay, Ricochet, I'm totally guilty of listening to the new trash. I am right now tuned into Avril Lavigne's Pandora Channel. But my dad made sure I had a high level of appreciation for classic rock and some other oldie genres. Sitting on the fence here......
I agree with everything you've said! A lot of "music" on the popular radio stations is crap. But then again I'm that one senior who will listen to Stevie Wonder or jazz just because I feel like it lol :)
