A pack of lies

A pack of lies

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I've been in one of my moods lately

"

We were sent to defend a lie
that doesn't matter now
With the past long dead and buried
deep in the hallowed ground

We're nothing but old war stories
of blood soaked memories
Of fire fights and flash air strikes
and mortar batteries

You wanna hear a war story
The one tale I can tell
The day I killed my first hajji
My soul went straight to hell

The one thing you need to know
You have to understand
Those we voted into power
Our blood is on their hands

The architects of a nightmare
For me will never end
Was nothing but a pack of lies
We were sent to defend

How many innocents now lie in graves? Nations brought to ruin by the whims and evil of a mafia in an oval office. It is the disgrace of the ages and for all the blood, screams and terror, they dare sleep soundly and count their millions. You can't imagine how deeply I agree with you, BR and I am so happy to see it brought into words. Thank you for this one.

The reason you went maybe fictitious, but can you look in the women's faces that you liberated and say it wasn't worth it, you can at least be proud of that fact, they can vote and marry whom they choose, they can wait until they are of age to make a decision to marry for love, so, yes, maybe it's not what you went there for but your presence made a difference for some people at least, and if you saved one 12 year old female from being sold to a 75 year old abusive husband ..well..is that something you would feel better about fighting for? If so then, sleep easier my friend, every war whether we like it or not, had a place in evolution...and evolution is the bigger picture. They don't know of any other way so they may not realize or even appreciate the prize, and things may not change with tradition at all, but you at least made that difference of choice, one we , you or anyone may not see in this lifetime, but who know about 100 years from now the differences you made today.

Interesting take. Do the lies matter or do the men matter? Of course the men matter, good or bad. I was reminded of parades while I read this. Have you ever watched a parade, seen the WWII veterans amble toward the end, old, but strong and proud, followed by the Koran War vets? Then come the vietnam vets, they look rag-tag and all a mess, they don't look like their fathers who stand so proud. I have yet to see what will come of the more recent veterans in a parade setting, but I wonder what effect the meaning of war has on the group of men who fought it?
All just thoughts...

Nicely written poem!

As usual, I am impressed with your limitless talents when it comes to subject matter.
You have done this justice as usual. Thanks for your military service as well to our country.
We need more heroes like you.

Well penned, sad that only a portion of us recognize this lie at the time.

Ya... we get sold a bill of goods and off go our young people to die 'defending freedom'. Good work Mark.
