I've been struggling with a poem about bodybuilding for some time so hopefully I finally nailed it. I took the photo a couple of weeks ago. God my hands look tiny.
I have a strange obsession to flat bench 405 I don't know why I want to So please don't ask me why
Bodybuilders are weirdos an obsessive lot we're looking for attention to show off what we got
Bigger is always better Ginormous monster thighs walk around in wife beater tees and scare off other guys
Some chicks they go crazy for it others think you're strange Forget about the emo chicks They think you're deranged
Little kids are fascinated they stand still and stare looking at a comic hero who wrestles grizzly bears
Some people will do double takes Sometimes they ask questions Yo big dog how much you bench typically gets mentioned
It's some kind of fucked up hobby The obsession of my life I'm praying God has a squat rack in heaven's afterlife
Bodybuilding has purity with moments of pure zen Focus on the present moment or you won't lift it then
Being ginormous is lots of fun Say anything you want No one dares to challenge you They can't get past your front
That's my poem on bodybuilding I hope to get applause So now if you'll excuse me please I'm gonna blast my quads
A buddy from my corps days recently came for a visit. He hadn't seen me since 2010 and was taken aback by my appearance. "Holy Christ Mark what do you want to do, Crush the planet Saturn?" was his take on it. He didn't get it and that's okay. A lot of people don't. I guess that's why I struggled for so long to write a poem about it. It's a personal choice that seems strange to some but for those of us that are into it, it's fucking awesome. Thank you for reading my poetry. I appreciate it more than you know

As long as you are healthy, enjoy it and careful to keep from getting hurt then more power to ya. This is a good poem and who cares what others think.
BTW most bodybuilders hands and heads look small compared to their torso and arm size (just my opinon).

I totally admire discipline and this poem. I would be a body builder myself if I had that type of discipline but I am physically a lazy person. I don't like exercise and I abhore sweating. so....the heavies thing I lift is my dinner plate.
Kudos to you. It takes a lot of work to build muscle like that. A LOT.
I'm OCD myself. I get very upset and anxious if something prevents me from following my daily exercise routine. Of course I don't lift weights. But I can do a shoulder stand and put my feet on the floor behind my head.
I was benching 285 reps of 10, 375 negative, and 405 squat, that was my max, now I'm just cardio and light weight high reps, working out clears the mind, helps with writing too, mind and body need to be one, enjoyed Ric.

I must have been feeling inspired that day. Squats aren't my strong suit. I typically work up to 315 for 6 -10 reps, depending on how good I feel and how much my knees hurt that day.

Working out really does clear the mind. Thanks for stopping by rene
I think you look amazing, Baby, and that ain't no lie. This poem had me laughing! Where else can a person see Emo chicks, ginormous thighs, wife beater t's, comic heros wresting grizzly bears, Heaven's fitness center and a man trying to crush Saturn with his bare hands? It's all you, mister! Ha! Enjoyed this read immensely. Angi~
I understand bodybuilding and being fit, I just don't see the attraction to being huge. I dated a bodybuilder that was monsterous for a very brief period - found out he was doing steriods and told him to pack sand.
Maybe it is the attention bodybuilders receive due to their disproportionate size from the average guy? :) I could go on, but we'll leave that topic alone! haha...
You definitely nailed the poem, Mark!
Body building isn't just an obsession, it's more a religeon to those who practice it faithfully. I think you nailed it Mark. Your friend in words, Pete
I think everyone should be able to do what they want to do and be proud of it (well except serial killers and terrorists). I too work on building my body, my regiment is beer, my midsection is growing in leaps and bounds.
Very cool my friend but please, don't crush Saturn.
I write just for the hell of it
A way to spend some time
Blurting out in cyber space
Whatever's on my mind
Maybe funny maybe tragic
Emotional and raw
