A WARRIOR'S TALE

I said I'd stop writing these kinds of poems but someone always comes along to inspire me with some magical thinking hippie bullshit.

In solid days when I was young
Answered the call to war
Run towards the sound of fury
A demon's blood lust w***e

The screaming Valkyrie in my soul
I feel her in my core
A wild card of phallic madness
Tales of warrior lore

A tortured sky of death machines
The distant flashes rumble
The rattle of machinery
Stones and mountains crumble

The ghosts who followed me back home
Tell secrets of my past
Cast long shadows on the ceiling
Reminders of my caste

The safety of civilian life
Cracks my warrior bones
Getting soft on listless boredom
My weapons turning stone

Turn into your daughter's lover
Plant my warrior seed
Raise another righteous army
teach my warrior creed

Traitors and cowards cry for peace
My likeness they deplore
Peace is never gonna happen
Without the call to war

Big Brother, this was very well written - and you are reminding me of a poem I wrote long ago. I had forgotten about it until you wrote this. I'll see if I can recall and post it today - and it is about war, and a fellow I knew many years ago who was in a flying military squadron.

You should also understand while a traitor may be a coward, a coward is not necessarily a traitor. There is a difference ... And the people pulling your general's strings - telling which of their regiment who to shoot and kill. A good number of them have never fired a gun in their life.

Are they the cowards then ? Or traitors ? Who is worse ? Someone who refuses to kill or someone who will readily kill as long as someone else does it for them and carries that heavy burden on their conscience for the remainder of their life ?

War is ugly business, Rico. That is why it is to be AVOIDED, that is why many people don't like it, that is why I hope to see a day wars - all of them, become a thing of the past, and no-one - not ever - gets hurt again ...

Although, I do not disagree; sometimes we must fight. I cannot help think of the pain and suffering we wreak before we learn empathy. If only I could undue some of things I have done. Powerful write.

Powerful words, Pryde, and well-spoken. I have always avoided fighting all of my life. I sometimes wonder where I would be had I fought some of the encounters I was coerced into. I think ultimately - I would've wound up worse than where I am today, so I don't regret fighting, but I do regret others trying to coax me into doing so.

Man I hate war and all it enrails. But I sure as hell appreciate the soldiers who answered the call in the 2 world wars, Korea and Vietnam etc. Otherwise we all be reading this in Japanese or German having been overrun by brutal invaders. I know Vietnam and the Middle Eastern conflicts weren't popular wars, but this in no way lowers the magnitude of the commitment of those who fought there. So, while I never fought myself, I hail the heros who did. I share your sentiments 100%. Bloody great read, love the rhyming and power in the message, going in my favs. Thanks BR
